Breast Cancer Vaccine- new article, new spin, same outcome

Head + Wall = Repeat.... again and again.

Well, here's another news story on the Breast Cancer Vaccine yesterday.  Notice the new spin they're trying to use after the online slaughter by breastfeeding advocates and lactivists because of the article earlier this week about this Vaccine , which I wrote about in "Breast Cancer Vaccine: Disaster waiting to happen-
In the article today from the Telegraph  they are now saying that the breast cancer vaccine will be starting human trials in a year, starting with women over 40 and young women whose family history puts them at high risk of the disease. (my crystal ball never lies!)

All women over 40 could be given a jab that prevents them getting breast cancer, a scientist has claimed.

The drug, which goes on trial within a year, has been shown to stop tumours ever appearing and also to attack those that are already present.

If successful, researchers say GPs could offer it to women before they reach their mid-40s, when the risk of breast cancer starts to rise steeply.

The drug could wipe out up to 70 per cent of breast cancers, saving more than 8,000 lives a year in Britain alone.

Dr Vincent Tuohy, the jab's creator, said it promised to offer "substantial protection" and raised the prospect of wiping out the disease altogether.

"We truly believe that a preventive breast cancer vaccine will do to breast cancer what the polio vaccine has done to polio," he said.

When I read this last line I just about spit my coffee out all over my laptop!  They are comparing this new vaccine with the polio vaccine?!?  Whomever came up with this comparison obviously has never done any research into the polio vaccine, or they are prophesying  that the new breast cancer vaccine will be one of the biggest mistakes in the history of modern medicine.  THIS Article  gives a very clear look at the history of the Polio vaccines and the horrifying truth that accompanies it.  THIS Article gives a run down of some of the noted comments about the salk/sabin polio vaccines:
""The Salk vaccine failed completely ... And the Sabin vaccine was a disaster. It caused many cases of polio and showed no relationship to the disease except for an increase in polio during the early '60s, caused by the vaccine itself. And now we have the sensational findings from the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, which strongly indicate that polio did not go away at all, but now manifests itself as chronic fatigue syndrome."--William Douglas MD"

For more information on the Polio vaccine debacle HERE

Pardon me while I climb down from my soapbox... the polio vaccine happens to be a major peeve of mine.

But I digress. The latest Telegraph article waxes eloquently about the benefits to woman kind that this breast cancer vaccine will bring to our society:

"We think it will provide substantial protection."Our view is that breast cancer is a completely preventable disease."

The vaccine is based on protein called alpha-lactalbumin that lurks in most breast cancer tumours.

In tests on mice bred to develop breast cancers by the age of 10 months, the drug was found to keep them free of tumours, the journal Nature Medicine reports.

The jab stimulates the immune system, priming it to destroy alpha-lactalbumin as it appears, and so stopping tumours from forming.

hmmmm... no mention of the breastmilk link in this article.  Or is there?

But as the protein targeted by the new drug is only found in healthy breasts when they are producing milk, the jab should specifically target diseased cells, leaving other tissue untouched.

The alpha lactalbumin protein is ONLY found in healthy breasts when they are producing milk....if the vaccine is targeting this protein, then it would seem to me that it will make breastfeeding impossible. I'm not a scientist nor a doctor, but if my logic is faulty, I'd love to hear from someone with a deeper insight.

...and of course they saved the best for last in this article:

"Crucially, there are already things that women can do to reduce their breast cancer risk including reducing alcohol consumption, maintaining a healthy weight and taking regular exercise."

I'm sure you've noticed that "Breastfeeding" has been left out of the list of what women can do to prevent breast cancer, both for themselves and their daughters?..... Is that a just a little slip up, or do you think it might be a it of subliminal messaging?
"Don't start thinking about Breastfeeding because it's about to become a thing of the past!"
Big Pharma can't make any money off of Breastfeeding, but they sure can make a heap of it selling  Vaccines!!

Breast Cancer Vaccine = disaster waiting to happen

To Quote my friend and partner Helen:  Head + Wall: Repeat

Are scientists so caught up in the search for another vaccine to add to the ever growing array of jabs that make up our medical arsenal and to make a bigillion dollars that they are actually willing to over look the horrifying prospects of this vaccine?!?  The news paper article below applauds this vaccine and states "the prospect of eliminating breast cancer is now a real possibility.", while tossing off one small comment about having to make choices. Are they blind?

I'm all for curing cancer- ALL cancers- and yes Breast Cancer is horrifying and I oh so wish it could be eradicated off the face of the planet, but can these people not see that the mere idea of this vaccine is going to lead to causing MORE problems?  Creating a Vaccine that will completely abolish breastfeeding places society in a downward spiral back into the dark ages of the 50's and 60's when doctors pushed infant formulas and dried up mothers milk with a quick needle after birth- many times without even asking if the mother wished to breastfeed.  Look at what THAT did!  We are fighting a war against unethical advertising from infant formula companies, trying to stop the mass marketing to new parents, the "free" gifts of formula that are given out in maternity wards and those that mysteriously appear in your mail box.  We are fighting to have hospitals become "Baby Friendly", for governments to fund breastfeeding support and promote breastfeeding as a way to combat many diseases....including BREAST CANCER!!

And now they want to create a vaccine that will make breastfeeding impossible to cure the disease that breastfeeding  will help prevent- not only in the mother who IS breastfeeding, but the daughter that she is breastfeeding!!!

*head + wall= repeat*

Let me look into my crystal ball and prognosticate for you.  If they go forward with this vaccine, it will be marketed and target women who are have a high risk- with a family history of breast cancer.  These women will be told that they can be "saved" from this horrible disease and a mass media storm will blanket the airwaves and printed papers and the TV telling women that they are now saved from Breast Cancer.  But that won't be good enough.  Why just "save" those who have a higher a risk of getting breast cancer?  Doesn't every woman deserve to be protected from this disease?  With in 2 years I guarantee that the marketing of the vaccine will change to put it in the regular vaccine schedule- you know: the same schedule that includes the Gardisil vaccine to prevent cervical cancer.  You know: that vaccine that has caused deaths and serious disabilities in so many young women?
The next thing you know, every teen girl will be lined up to be vaccinated against breast cancer, regardless of her family history.  It won't matter that the medical machine will warn teen age girls of the fact that they won't be able to breastfeed their babies, they will scare them (and their parents) silly with the possibility of getting breast cancer.
...and now we have created a generation of babies that will not be protected by the antibodies and immunity building properties of their mothers milk. A generation that will be formula fed, not because of advertising or the "ease of sharing the responsibility of night time feedings", but because they CAN NOT be breastfed.

*still banging head against the wall*

A vaccine for breast cancer would be a great step forward – but there's a catch

If the research goes according to plan, this country’s vaccination programme looks set to include a jab to prevent breast cancer. Dr Vincent Tuohy, an immunologist at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, has discovered that a protein called alpha-lactalbumin is present in up to 70 per cent of breast cancer tumours – and he believes that this estimate might be on the low side.
Rather than target the cancer cells in the tumour, he has looked at the problem from a different angle and produced a vaccine which stimulates the immune system to destroy the protein.
There are other centres doing similar work. Dr Leatham, at University College London, who is researching for the charity Against Breast Cancer, has discovered that breast cancer patients have a low level of natural immunity and so their immune systems needs a boost. As yet, no vaccine has been produced in the UK but it is reassuring to hear that many people are thinking along the same lines.
There would appear to be one problem.  Alpha-lactalbumin is also found in the milk of women who are breast-feeding, which means that, if the woman has been vaccinated, it will not be possible for her to breast-feed because the immune system will combat the protein.  Nothing in medicine is ever straightforward – there are always choices to be made – but, at least, the prospect of eliminating breast cancer is now a real possibility.
This vaccine will be used on young women – particularly those who have a family history of breast cancer – and those over the age of 40, when the cancer is more likely to develop but when they are less likely to be breastfeeding. It is hoped, too, that the vaccine will be able to shrink tumours – again, as immune system targets the protein.
This is the first time we have been offered prevention and treatment from the same source.  It has to be good news, especially for the growing number of young women whose breast cancers tend to be more aggressive.  At the moment, most GPs are reluctant to refer a young woman for a mammogram and the way our medical system is arranged means that it is not possible to self-refer.  Consequently, it is often too late for the young patient to escape drastic surgery and chemotherapy.
Of course, no one must think that this vaccine will take the place of a healthy diet, exercising and not overdoing the alcohol. The same applies for people who take statins to keep their cholesterol levels down, but assume they can continue eating all the cholesterol-raising foods. Nothing is as simple as that.
Something else occurs to me. Men also develop breast cancer. I wonder – will they be included in the vaccination programme? Perhaps someone will let me know the answer.

Today HRT, Tomorrow.... Vaccine manufacturers?

Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer is on the verge of being seriously slapped down for selling women Hormone Replacement Therapy pills that cause cancer.... not just for selling them, but for selling them with full knowledge that they may cause cancer. Court battles are being waged all over the US as women are going after Pfizer for knowingly selling them a product that they knew was cancer causing... and so far Pfizer has lost every single engagement.

The law firm behind a $78 million (US) court-ordered settlement in the fall of a lawsuit brought against the company pfizer, created a video made to look like a TV news segment. In it, they accuses Wyeth of willfully hiding the drug's dangers.

(in response Pfizer has demanded that the courts remove the video from You Tube saying " it could prejudice juries in upcoming court cases.")

So today, the vast majority of the public now KNOW that HRT treatments can cause cancer and doctors and patients alike are saying "NO" to hormone replacements. Finally, the public has been forced to admit and SEE that Pfitzer didn't care about the public taking it's medication, only about the bottom line and making a profit.

The first of the biggies to tumble out of public favour?!

Is this the start of something that might actually save our health and lives? Holding Big Pharma accountable for their gross negligence and their money grubbing actions? If it's HRT today, who will be next to be held accountable for the damanges to public health and the deaths they have caused in their bid to make billions of dollars for their pockets?

Shall I whisper it?

Dare I say it?

...are the vaccine manufacturers next?

..........we can only hope.

Mum’s victory in breast milk donor battle

Victory is sweet... but the fact that it was such an arduous and emotional battle is a pathetic commentary on our times. For ANY medical establishment to claim that there "is no evidence there was any benefit in giving [breast]milk to babies born after 29 weeks for more than the first few weeks of life."..... it boggles the mind that any of these doctors are even allowed to retain their medical licences, not to mention haven't been charged for making gross false statements and deliberately misleading patients. But for this family, they have overcome yet another huge hurdle and can now maybe relax a bit and enjoy the Christmas season with their family.

Mum’s victory in breast milk donor battle

A MUM who was refused donor milk for her premature baby despite fighting breast cancer has had the decision overturned.

Dawn Hockey was 12 weeks pregnant with her second child when she was diagnosed with cancer in June.

Defying the odds and surviving two bouts of chemotherapy, baby Alex was born seven weeks early on November 1, weighing 4lbs 10oz.

But although doctors agreed to provide donor breast milk until Dawn could feed Alex herself, the 28-year-old – who also had a single mastectomy – was left devastated when bosses at Stepping Hill Hospital, in Stockport, said they were stopping the donations.

They claimed there was no evidence there was any benefit in giving milk to babies born after 29 weeks for more than the first few weeks of life.

As reported in the M.E.N. last week, Dawn, of North Road, Glossop, who is married to Michael and also has a 15-month-old son William, decided to

appeal the decision.

But after transferring from Stepping Hill to Tameside Hospital, primary care trust bosses in Tameside and Glossop decided in her favour and will supply donor milk until Dawn can breastfeed, when her chemotherapy ends in March.

Dawn said: “It’s such a relief, it’s amazing. I’m over the moon.

Mom in UK needs Breastmilk and support asap

I read this story yesterday and my heart just broke. This a mom who needs support and help for herself and her little baby- but it looks like the British health authorities are stalling and may actually withhold what her baby desperately needs: Breastmilk.
If you are in the UK and have any means to help, PLEASE do what you can! Because when the governments are asses, then it's up to us moms to step up to the plate and do what WE can to help a fellow mother in need.

Cancer Mum in Baby milk plea

A YOUNG mum who was diagnosed with breast cancer while pregnant is appealing against a decision to stop giving donated breast milk to her premature baby.

Dawn Hockey, 28, was 12 weeks pregnant with her second child when she received the devastating news in June this year.

Defying the odds and surviving two bouts of chemotherapy, baby Alex was born on 1 November – seven weeks early – weighing 4lbs 10oz....

..."I had to stop breastfeeding William (her 15 month old son) which was heartbreaking enough and the agreement was that Alex could be on donated breast milk until I could take over when I finish my treatment in April.

"I can’t feed him, not while I’m on chemotherapy.

"He has been exposed to two doses of chemotherapy in the womb, we don’t know what damage that has done to him, and there are things in breast milk that strengthen your immune system, not in formula.

"This is our argument, this is what he needs."
