Last summer and fall a group of provincial stakeholders met to discuss the components of a provincial breastfeeding strategy. Over several meetings the group developed “Recommendations for a Provincial Breastfeeding Strategy for Ontario”. The recommendations include four key areas:
  1. Leadership and Policy Development
  2. Service Delivery
  3. Surveillance, Research and Evaluation
  4. Capacity Building
It has been endorsed by a number of key organizations and has been disseminated to service providers, and policy makers at community and government levels.

The document is available on the Ontario Breastfeeding Committee website at: http://www.breastfeedingontario.org/promotion.html

MPP France GĂ©linas is holding a press conference at Queen’s Park to launch the Recommendations for a Provincial Breastfeeding Strategy for Ontario on May 12th at 9:45 am, in coordination with Canada Health Day. Several key stakeholders will be present and speak to present the need for an Ontario Breastfeeding Strategy.

Here are some strategies on how you can support the document.

  • Share the document with your co-workers and managers
  • Present the document to your local MPP and make him or her aware of the press conference
  • Contact local media to add local stories to the news of the press conference
